Toyota Matrix
Volkswagen Rabbit
Honda Fit
Nissan Versa
Mazda 3

Right now, it looks like were choosing between just the VW Rabbit/Golf, Nissan Versa, and Honda Fit.

Do these have big blind spots? etc?

Which one is safest and has more standard features?

What is a distiguishing feature of each?

I’d recommend the Volvo C30. It’s brand new. It’s a small car which is great for city driving and parking. It’s a car for young people and reasonably priced.

IMHO, those are all good cars for the new driver. An additional one would be the Toyota Corolla or any of the Scion models. Having said that, I only have experience with one of those models, the Nissan Versa.

Upon test driving the sedan and hatchback, they were VERY easy to drive. I usually drive a larger sedan as a weekend warrior, but was in the market for a smaller car as a commuter mobile. The car did not have big blind spots, if any, and appeared very safe to me. Additionally, without breaking the bank, a whole slew of features could be added on to the standard model (which did not include much bare bones). Avaliable Intellegent key is an impressive feature of this introductory model as in an avaliable 6 CD changer. In both models, the leg space in the back seat was surprisingly large. It was very roomy for a car of its size, though in the hatchback model, the trunk space is smaller than most hatches.

Scions are also well received by new drivers as this is the market that they are most targeted to. The cars can be heavily accessorized without putting a huge dent in your wallet and the tC comes standard with a panoramic glass sunroof and alloy wheels.

Hope this helps some and good luck with your search!
