Should auto dealers stop giving away their new cars?

It seems that since 9/11 the new car auto dealers have been giving away their cars and the manufactures have been offering 0% financing. This has forced a buying market to keep the economy going. This must have not been a great idea because of the situation they are in now. Maybe we should just pay a little more….

Their problems are caused by poor quality, expensive union contracts and expensive retirement benefits.
