I am getting my cataylc convertor replaced and I’m wondering what will this change improve on my car? I drive a 99 acura 3.2TL and they told me its functioning at 50% right now. Also my check engine light has been on as a result of the cat being bad…..I also think they said they may be replacing the gaskets…?? Any info and all info would be wonderful!!! Thanks in advance.

it will improve mileage as a result in reducing the backflow pressure created by the converter clogging up.It will also keep your motor from burning up valves, and reduce the stress on the motor created by back pressure.A clogged converter is not a good thing.

If there was nothing wrong with the old one, no, the performance would remain the same. But, as you said, it is functioning at 50%, there should be some top end improvement.

The catalytic converter is designed for one purpose, to reduce emissions. The platinum palladium and rhodium in the converter create a chemical reaction to reduce emissions. When these agents become contaminated the efficiency is reduced and the likely hood of you passing smog is greatly reduced. If they break down and enter the muffler it will cause a restriction and this will effect your performance. If I were to Analise your need for this repair, I would ask to see a tail pipe emissions analysis. This is the true performance report of the converter. From what you have written, I would say that you are probably in need of the repair, due to the age of the vehicle.

A catalytic converter is like a charcoal filter for your exhaust. If
it is filled with carbon it will need to be replaced. The exhaust will flow freely and performance will improve.Always replace
the gaskets when changing parts to save time and labor.
