    Things get unlocked when you win cups in single player, in Grand Prix mode. But sometimes you also get them for things like doing 8 different tracks in time trial mode, and beating a certain number of the staff ghost data.

    I think you get a few things when you win cups in every track in 50cc/100cc/150cc.

    Sometimes you unlock several things at once, like a character and a kart/bike at the same time.
