Are there plans to allow new diesel cars back in California?

I’m a big biodiesel fan and I’ve been frustrated since 2003 when California stopped allowing new passenger vehicles powered by diesel to be sold in the state. The primary vehicle that this excludes is the VW series (Jetta, Beetle, Golf). These cars are afforable, reliable and (with biodiesel) very clean. More importantly, they use up less oil as they have significantly better mileage.

Does anyone know if California has plans to allow new diesel vehicles like these to be sold in the state again?

I dont think they will. California is an insane place. If you have the ability to move I recomend leaving California.

California is an insane place. Until they come up with a smog test for diesels i don’t see them letting the cars back. They say the test will be mandatory by 2008.As I drive a diesel truck, I plan to move out of CA by 2008.
