    Yes traffic reports have that in real time traffic flow. We have it here in Portland,OR where if its green you go smooth, amber slowing down traffic, and red lots of traffic and stop and go.

    In Seattle there is a system of speed sensors embedded in the highway. They are linked to a central server that allows a website and the traffic reporters to display real time congestion on a map. But it’s only on the major highways. Many of the smaller highways aren’t covered.

    The system doesn’t actually count the cars and provide real time this is the number of cars on the road data, they only track speed. I imagine they do keep track of how many cars went past the sensors in a day so they can plan road improvements.
