Well I have to decide between the 2 to optimize my site with. so NY or New york. it’s Rochester NY or Rochester New york.

I sometimes do both. I’ll try one way seeing if I can find what I’m looking for and then try it the other way.

It all depends on the actual location you want.
If you want to search for a car in New York (state), then typing Cars in NY is fine.
If you want to search for a car in New York (city) in the state of NY, then you’ll probably want to type Cars in New York, New York (or NY).
